Thinking Through Art

Each activity begins with a carefully structured statement. Children must process information, formulate a visual idea and then draw it on their paper.

How Would That Look? is designed to be done orally, so these activities are also great for honing listening skills. They can also be used for centers, though, or done independently by children.

The concept is simple: You say a statement—once—and then the children have to make a drawing that captures the essence of that statement. For instance, you say, "I took a picture of my mom's face that was so close that you couldn't see the top of her head. How would that look?" (Click on the sample to see how this works.)

Note: The activities included here were part of our "How Would That Look?" Enrichment Packet/Level 2. For simplicity, all of our Enrichment Packets are now called "Thinkables." The material itself has not changed.
